How did you get into officiating?
I started refereeing in high school because it seemed like more fun than delivering papers, and found that I loved it.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while progressing through the ranks to become an official?
As you advance, the commitment required increases exponentially. Good time management and maintaining balance in life is a continual challenge.

Who has had the biggest influence on your career and why?
Coming up through the ranks, I was fortunate to have a number of experienced officials and excellent instructors that helped me improve my game. Mike Seifert was a FIFA referee in my home town and was the biggest influence early in my career. In the professional game, our coaches have all been instrumental in my development.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
The 2012 Amway Canadian Championship Final.

What advice would you pass on to an aspiring official?
Recognize that there are a number of things in your career that you can control, and a number that you cannot. Don’t worry about the ones you can’t – they will sort themselves out in the end if you continue to perform on the field.
