Nov 12, 2014

PRO's Ted Unkel has been assigned as the head referee for the NASL Championship Final between San Antonio Scorpions and Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Unkel has enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2014, officiating 12 MLS games as well as five NASL matches, with The Championship Final on Saturday, November 15, set to be his sixth.

INTERVIEW: Ted Unkel thrilled at becoming the man in the MLS middle

The 36-year-old was fourth official at last year's Soccer Bowl, so has experience of the showpiece final, and was assigned to a Strikers game during the NASL regular season.

Unkel will be assisted at Toyota Field by Gianni Facchini and Felisha Mariscal, who have been rewarded with the assignment after successful inaugural years on the PRO roster.

MLS center referee Armando Villarreal will be on fourth official duties, while Jason white is the reserve assistant referee.

It's set to be a historic occasion in San Antonio as neither the Scorpions nor the Strikers have ever lifted the Soccer Bowl trophy.
