Oct 31, 2014

Eastern Conference Semifinal first legs

PRO's Drew Fischer is the center referee for the first Semifinal in the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs, taking charge of Columbus Crew versus New England Revolution on November 1.

The 34-year-old will lead the two teams out at Columbus Crew Stadium alongside World Cup assistant referee Joe Fletcher, Claudiu Badea and fourth official Fotis Bazakos.

The Semifinal will be Fischer's 17th center official assignment in MLS this year, with his most recent coming on October 18 at Buck Shaw Stadium in the scoreless draw between San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps.

Last year's MLS Cup Final referee Hilario Grajeda will be in the middle for New York Red Bulls versus D.C. United at Red Bull Arena.

Grajeda is the most used PRO referee in MLS in 2014 with 20 regular season games under his belt, and he has officiated both teams this year.

On October 11 he blew the whistle at New York Red Bulls' clash with Toronto FC, a week after officiating D.C.'s match up against Sporting Kansas City at RFK Stadium.

Grajeda will be assisted at Red Bull Arena by Bill Dittmar, just as he was in the 2013 MLS Cup Final. The other AR for the Eastern Conference clash is Kermit Quisenberry. Edvin Jurisevic will be on the touchline as fourth official.

The experienced Silviu Petrescu has been named the head referee for the Western Conference Semifinal first leg between Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy.

The 2012 MLS Referee of the Year has overseen 14 MLS games this season and was fourth official in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round between New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City on Friday.

He will be joined at Rio Tinto Stadium by assistants Baboucarr Jallow and Mike Rottersman, with Sorin Stoica on fourth official duties.

Allen Chapman will lead the refereeing crew at Toyota Stadium in the other Western Conference Semifinal first leg.

The referee, who made his MLS debut in 2012, was involved in last year's MLS Cup Playoffs as fourth official in the Western Conference Knockout Round, but he's now in the middle after 17 regular season games.

Chapman last refereed an FC Dallas game in May at StubHub Center, where they lost 2-1 to LA Galaxy, to extend their winless streak to six games.
