Ahead of the 2014 season, PRO has established the standards that officials must reach in order to work in the North American soccer competitions.

Officials must pass the FIFA Men’s Referee or Assistant Referee Test in order to work matches in Major League Soccer.

For the North American Soccer League Referees must pass the FIFA Men’s Referee test. Assistant Referees must pass the Women’s Assistant Referee Test.

For USL PRO assignments, officials must pass the FIFA Women’s Referee or Assistant Referee Test.

To officiate in US Open Cup matches involving an MLS team, the FIFA Men’s Referee or AR test must also be passed.  For matches involving an NASL team, the Referee must pass the FIFA Men’s Referee test. Assistant Referees must pass the Women’s Assistant Referee Test. All other games require the FIFA Women’s Referee or Assistant Referee test to be completed.

National referees and national candidates will take the test at any US Soccer Regional Training Seminar. All other referees need to take the test using electronic gates for the sprints at a local venue attended by a PRO support staff member.
